a tin full o’ beans- Jim’s home on wheels.

Jim’s been roaming the USA in his airstream spreading the good news and is just about to ship off for a tour or Australia, but before he goes he’s coming to McCabes Saturday, March 1 to teach the Weekend Ukulele Warriors how to ear up.  Jim’s humor and enthusiasm match his musicianship.  Join him in this fun and practical workshop whether you are just learning or already know it all.

Jim D’Ville is a music educator and facilitator who is on a mission to get ukulele players off the paper and playing music by ear. He has taught his Play Ukulele By Ear workshops to thousands of players in the United States, Canada and Australia. Jim is the author of the Play Ukulele By Ear DVD series and hosts the popular Play Ukulele By Ear website (http://PlayUkuleleByEar.com).

…ladies and gents, the AMAZING Fred!

He goes waaay back!

He goes waaay back!

He’s the teacher’s teacher!  Quite literally, in this case.  I sought Fred a few years back when I wanted more out of my playing.  I have always been a song machine but never felt that I had enough theory or skill to truly call myself a musician.  I’m still fakin’ it till I make it, but Fred taught me my Rhythm Changes and introduced me to the Roadmap.

Fred  has authored a literal library of instructional books for all sorts of stringed instruments, including the ukulele.   His Fretboard Roadmaps  books  (one is penned especially for uke) are the coolest way way to navigate an instrument  and will completely change your understanding of your axe.  Check out his website here– maybe buy a copy of the Fretboard Roadmap to work through before and after class- you’ll be glad you did!

...and this is now

…and this is now

The Weekend Ukulele Warriors welcome Fred this coming Saturday, Feburary 22 at noon, teaching the roadmap to all uke travelers.

Remember to give him your contact on the little paper slip so your name can go in the hat for the drawing of the Kala travel tenor on March 8.

And do come back the following week, March 1 for a great class by Jim D’Ville on how to play ukulele BY EAR!

Here are the rest of the winners- (some of)  last week’s happy students with our guest teacher Jason Arimoto.  Everyone took home KALA swag:  tshirts and tuners and stickers after a great class of Blues for Beginners.  That pentatonic blues box was easier then I thought it would be.  We were all soloing by the end of class.IMG_6677Next week  I’ll be teaching simple picking patterns to add fun and interest to your playing…Pickin’and Grinnin’!   Learn the basics of picking, from the easiest plucks to a Travis pick for the 4 strings.
