Join me next Saturday, July 9th in Little Tokyo, the heart of downtown Los Angeles, for a mass-celebration of ukulele! There will be jams, demonstrations, give aways, concerts, talks, and free lessons- Who knows, we might even break a world record!
I will be coming straight from McCabes, where I am starting a 3-week class– there is still room if you want to join- and will jump right in to leading a sing and play along, including Hawaiian songs, Japanese songs and favorites songs you can sing and strum along with- even if you have just learned your first chords!
We had our first drawing for a KALA BRAND ukulele at the Weekend Ukulele Warrior series at McCabes and RON was the lucky winner! Here’s the happy man…
Here are the rest of the winners- (some of) last week’s happy students with our guest teacher Jason Arimoto. Everyone took home KALA swag: tshirts and tuners and stickers after a great class of Blues for Beginners. That pentatonic blues box was easier then I thought it would be. We were all soloing by the end of class.Next week I’ll be teaching simple picking patterns to add fun and interest to your playing…Pickin’and Grinnin’! Learn the basics of picking, from the easiest plucks to a Travis pick for the 4 strings.
The following week Daniel shares Bossa Nova Training Wheels
and then we have three weeks of amazing guests in a row- Fred Sokolow, Jim D’Ville and our favorite ukulele double date, Sarah Maisel and Craig Chee!
Jason is a great player and teacher with a heart as big as his talent!
He and Daniel Ho have worked together to build Ukulele Creations and the U-Space at the JACC is an amazing space dedicated to building community through the ‘ukulele. We are thrilled that he will be at McCabes THIS SATURDAY as our first guest instructor at Weekend Ukulele Warriors.
Join us at NOON, Saturday, February 1 to learn the BLUES for Beginners with Jason!
This workshop will explore the simple and subtle inflections that can help give the blues to any happy uke. If you want to play a hard driving blues shuffle or a solid country blues groove this class will get you started. In addition, the blues scale in “A” will be covered along with a few choice blues riffs to jump start your blues solos.
Daniel and I will be there to learn from the master- we can’t wait! Classes are $40 each, no advance reservations necessary.
